POWER COUPLE J-LO AND A-ROD CREATE BUZZ WITH PENDING WEDDING PLANS

There are dozens of folks worthy of recognition as we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Pope Francis is always in the news as he continues to tackle reform within the Catholic Church. The 82 year old Pontiff hasn’t been shy about engaging in political activities outside The Vatican either. The first Jesuit Pope, a native of Buenos Aires, remains focused on the crisis in Venezuela. And last February, Francis became the first Pope to ever visit the Arabian peninsula.

When American immigration activist Sophie Cruz was only five years old, she boldly delivered a hand written letter to Pope Francis, expressing fear that ICE would deport her Oaxaca-born parents back to Mexico. A year later, Sophie gave a speech in English and Spanish at the Washington Women’s March, bringing her mother to tears. She was even invited to the White House and spent some time with then-President Obama. But these days, Sophie Cruz, now almost 10, has kept a low profile with her family as the Trump administration ramps up its anti-migrant policies.

Baseball icon Mariano Rivera has had an amazing year. The retired New York Yankee bullpen closer became the first player to ever be elected unanimously to the Hall of Fame on the first year of eligibility. Then only a few weeks ago, he received the Presidential Medal of Honor, the most prestigious award that can be given to a civilian. But despite those accomplishments, Mo Rivera has been overshadowed lately by another former Yankee named Alex Rodriguez, and his pop star fiancee Jennifer Lopez. These are the beautiful people that dominate the headlines of every entertainment tabloid and social media outlets.

J-Lo and A-Rod became engaged in March of this year. It will be the fourth marriage for her and the second for him. Lopez has twins, a boy and a girl, from her relationship with fellow entertainer Marc Anthony. Rodriguez has two girls, 14 and 11. For the moment, these two love birds have sold their luxury apartment in Manhattan for $17.5 million and switched out in favor of a $6.6 million fixer-upper beach house in Malibu Beach, California. Better for the kids with plenty of profit to remodel, right?

Lopez, 50, is riding a massive wave of popularity equal to any point and time in her career. The “My Party” tour was a huge success, and the controversial film “Hustlers,” just recently released, has been well received at the box office. And in breaking news, Lopez and Colombian singer/dancer Shakira will provide the halftime entertainment for the next Super Bowl, scheduled at Miami in February 2020.

Rodriguez, 44, once the top paid player in baseball, is still a high roller. He’s on ESPN’s A-Team in the broadcast booth, owns a real estate company with property in 11 states, and rakes in endorsements from Mercedes-Benz, Nike, Rolex and Polo Ralph Lauren. While J-Lo enjoys a slightly higher net worth than her hubby to be, the pair have a combined earning power of over $800 million and growing.

As for the future wedding, don’t expect any formal announcement until well after the Super Bowl. Lopez has revealed however, that her son Max will escort her to the alter. Rodriguez says the entire production is up to Jennifer, who is “very good at that sort of thing.”

“When she tells me where and when to show up,” says A-Rod, “I’ll be there.”
